#blog-entry
This week is much better than last week.
I'm able to focus for more than 30 minutes and overcome the uneasy feeling and fear of not coming up with something good.
Work and Art
Doing commission
- finishing 1 more commission, using Photoshop to design was much better than I expected
- I'm much more proficient in designing Big Shape now, with pretty much any brush shape.
- I'm starting to figure out how to improve Muddy Colors🌱 in a generalized way.
- good value + simplified brush strokes can reduce the impression of Muddy Colors (need more experiment)
sketch
commission was getting smoother so this is the only sketch in this week.
I'm figuring out how to visualize organic shapes in space.
Abstract scribble is one of the relaxing activity that I do while procrastinating. It is strangely soothing, and I did discover some brush pattern that I never use in a normal setting. Basically it is a playing ground for me to test color combinations, brushes or other tools.
Random stuffs
- I watched Eminence in Shadow, and can't stop laughing at those edgy sequences 😂
- I really like Alpha and Olivier's appearance, blond elf in elegant outfit (+parted bang is a bonus) is one of my favorite combo (reflected in my artwork Remains of the World tree🌱). Some examples include Marcille in Dungeon Meshi, Margaret in Rune Factory 4, Daria in Rune Factory 3 and though not blond, the Kalars in Rance series.
- Thinking about Tacit Knowledge🌱, the kind of knowledge that can't be put into words
- https://commoncog.com/tacit-knowledge-is-a-real-thing/
- opposite to Explicit Knowledge, things that can be put into words.
- example: knowing grey has harmonizing effects is an explicit knowledge. apply it in various color combo and environmental conditions is tacit knowledge
- explicit knowledge did help me finding out techniques or terms that I did not know before, but actually internalizing that knowledge is a matter of practice and experiment.
- Thinking about Talent Stacks🌱
- https://personalexcellence.co/blog/talent-stack/
- wondering how can I find my own unique combination
- typography, non-perspective composition and figurative art is an average combo, not too popular but not too niche either
- pushing this combo is an option
- adding something else is another option but it is hard to find something I like but also mix well with my existing skills.
Favorite art of the week
- this design by neco

- I'm practicing Macro Rendering and Big appealing shapes, so I'm really impressed with these kind of design
