Work and Art
Commission
- non-drawing tasks are piling up, freelancing is hard...
- 2 commissions at the same time are still manageable. Just the right amount considering I'm also squeezing in a short study session everyday.
Sketches and studies
-
Need better time management so I can do more personal art! Here's an update for the art trade in the last blogpost. I really like the layering in this one.
-
I'm feeling vastly more confident in my sketching and slightly more confident in my linework. I still struggle to rotate object in space but for certain angle (not too foreshortened) I can visualize pretty well!
Still need to work on my accuracy skill! For me it's not too urgent since I mostly draw from construction (I can't draw without understanding the structure), but I still think it's a great skill to invest in.
Style Development
- I like people with strong style (but remember Uniqueness or strong style is not the only path for an artist 🌱) so I really want myself to have stronger unique style.
- I don't have a clear goal for this. I just follow my interests and try to adjust my art accordingly.
Currently I really like the clean look of qqjnr, Yukina so I want to learn strong bold lineart with more emphasis on big shape and human body like that.
But it's kinda conflicting with one of my strong weapon: striated gradient brush stroke and dithering hatching (like Leyendecker)
Need to think of some way to combine them.
Less Passive Input, more Active Input and especially more Output
- this needs to be my new mantra for the time being.
- I just like looking at other people artwork so much. It's currently more enjoyable than drawing (marginally), so while it was plenty helpful in the past, its benefit is much weaker now or even harmful for my own drawing practice.
Favorite art of the week
- starshadowmagic's character design

- I really like the right one. The contrast of the 2 color blocks red and cream. The cream scarf with a geometric feel to it that is also a contrast with the overall organic, fruity feel of the ornaments.
