New year is approaching, I will write 2023 year review and 2024 goal setting soon!
It's been about 1 year since I created this site, I didn't update it as regularly as I want but it's been very helpful for me to push my thoughts out.

πΈ Commission: now that I drop my concurrent commission to 1, I hope that time management will be less stressful and I can squeeze in some more time for entertainment and personal art. Working under an overbearing amount of stress is really hellish and unproductive.

- β² Enjoying Art and Creating Art.
- I really love art, my love for art as a viewer is currently stronger than that of an artist. That is to say, I currently prefer looking and consuming rather than creating. One of next year goal is to reestablish my love for art as an artist and enjoy creating more!
- The love as a viewer cause me to want to diverge my attention to many fields, which could be a good thing in some circumstances. However, for the current me I strongly feel like it hampers more than it helps. Because of that excessive love, I couldn't really commit to anything. Commitment is what I desperately need now!
- oh this feels like dejavu somehow, maybe I said this before on here.
- β² Thoughtful and Intuitive Process
- In the past year, for every commissions I did, I always spended a lot of time researching the subject before drawing. The lore, character info, what imagery or concept I can connect to the character in question, how many ways I can approach the same idea, etc. It was and will stay a complicated, time-consuming process. I enjoy this kind of thoughtful artwork with explicit intention like that and even though I can't find a way to raise its efficiency right now, I want to produce this kind of art for the rest of my life.
- The opposite of this thoughtful process in my opinion is an intuitive process. It's not that this kind of process is made without any thought. It's hard to explain because of its intuitive nature. In my definition, Intuitive process doesn't require me to make sense of everything, I just need minimal research to know what to draw, pulling from my emotion and life experience.
- This very much relates to the concept of Tacit vs Explicit Knowledge π±
- The relationship between explicit and tacit knowledges is one of the things I contemplate a lot about. How they can transfer to each other, how different groups of people perceive art made with each kind, how I can balance them in my art, etc.
- (how I judge whether something is more thoughtful or more intuitive is totally subjective)

πFavorite Art of the
week: 13 Sentinels- π
- I think the game as a whole is a piece of art, not just its artworks.
- There are things I hate and love about the story. I haven't finished it yet but I can say I don't think the story is a masterpiece (I'm at 90% completion). However, I still have to say it was a really phenomenal experience.
- I want to write a dedicated page for this game, we'll see if I can spare some time going through the event viewer.
- β₯ The way that this story is truly made for a game and not a novel script with gameplay tacked on. The fact that we control the character to visually immerse in the world. The fact that we spend time juggling between thoughts and repeating them many times.
- I really don't think this could be adapted into any other media, even if we give it Hollywood budget.
- I really want to play another story-based game from Vanillaware!

I'm making a change to simplify how I update this blog. I will still skip writing the log if the workload is too heavy.
It will be a monthly page where I can add anything to the corresponding week.
There were many problems and frictions to the old way I maintain the weekly blog:
- The name of the entries have the exact date, which was a pain to check and update the prev and next navigation
- I would always create the log beforehand as a space to jot down stuffs in the week but I almost never update it on time (it was supposed to be sunday but I always pushed them to monday)
- Markdown heading is another friction
Someday if I have the fund I will subscribe to the official Obsidian Publish for their future Canvas publishing feature! I think doing the weekly blog there will be more interesting ! But browsing on mobile would be harder I guess.
For the time being, these will be the changes to the blog:
- Monthly blog entry instead of weekly
- can skip any week with heavy workload (more flexible for me)
- change the format to bullet point list (easier to edit)
- keep wording concise
- avoid writing too long on a given topic

πΈ Commission it seems 2 commissions at the same time is still too heavy for me, after this batch I will be conservative and drop to only 1 commission.
- The apparent disadvantage would be that I lose the ability to switch between them in case I'm stuck with one. However, in reality I often got stuck with both of the comms rather than just 1. I'm still experimenting but I found non-art activity like going for a walk or exercise can help a tiny little bit.
- Graphic Design and Rendering mismatch: It happened enough time so I will add it to this Garden/Roadblock

β² Endfield and its unified art direction
- it's a bit sad that there won't be any artist credit for character design anymore, as every artists would have to design and draw according to Liduke's direction and art style, and every design are likely the result of the collaboration of many artists. (I guess it is similar to the 'Studio Montagne' situation in the main game)
- It's still absolutely beautiful, especially in motion but I really love the culture of promoting artist via ingame credit.
- Surprisingly I don't like Angelina design but her animation is really cute
- Avywenna is my favorite, I don't know if it's LM7 but her design look LM7-ish to me.

β² The Great Ace Attorney
- I've been playing TGAA for the past few weeks with my SO.
- I really like the stylized 3D in this one, it translates Kazuya Nuri's art perfectly.
- The story is engaging, I like how it emphasizes on the struggle of the working class (still on chapter 4 of the first game)

π Favorite Art of the week: Kate Greenaway's illustrations
- πhttps://www.royalacademy.org.uk/art-artists/name/kate-greenaway
- β₯ rustic pastel color (possibly caused by the combination of old books + scanning)
- β₯ simple layout and elegant placement of illustration
- β₯ some slight geometric quality
