- ✨ Topics:
- ▲ Heptabase and the design process
- I recently start using Heptabase, a visual note taking tool. I'm still trying it out but so far I prefer it to Obsidian Canvas, mainly because of its better performance even with large amount of images.
- It's subscription only though. I don't think its current implemented capabilities are worth the price tag of 12 USD. However, looking at how the team respond to their customer base and reading their design philosophy, I can see that Heptabase team is really thoughtful in their design process. For now, I decide to try it for 6 months to see
- One thing I really like about their design process is that they don't necessarily work on a highly requested feature. The reason? Users often time have a need they want to fulfill, and they suggest a feature based on that need, but they can't really know if that feature is the best solution for that need. So any requests should be examined carefully, in conjunction with exisiting features.
- Related to the Hover feature on iPad synergizes with the portability and capability of the hardware
- I think I can apply this to the revision process in my commission: A feedback to change something doesn't necessarily reflect the client's desire. So I shouldn't blindly follow the feedback, but rather should inquire about their desire.
- ▲ The problem with using other people's art for commercial purpose
- I have mixed feelings about the rise of "Study from popular artist" kind of video. On one hand, it's just fun to see people dissecting and analyzing artworks, but on the other hand, I feel that some channels just use it as a strategy to grow and attract sponsors, or advertise their own business. Maybe the original artist wouldn't mind since they are mostly high profile people, but with all the AI stuff going on, something about using other's artwork for commercial purpose just irks me.
